The pedagogic approaches followed at NIFFT are a fine mixture of                                                       Group Learning
collective and individual focus. Professional life cannot be devoid of                                       
values and social responsiveness. The emphasis is thus on social
responsiveness and the utility of cooperation with competition givingrise
to collaborative leadership along with honed technical skills.

Group learning

This method is based on the assumption that peer group learning is
very effective. Self-study is essential for an individual's success.
However, learning from others and appreciating different opinions
are essential ingredients in the creation of a successful professional.

Classroom knowledge needs to be reinforced. A proactive and                                                                    
formally planned program for developing atitudes and skills has
been institutionalized within NIFFT's non-classroom curriculum,
through a variety of projects, industry visits, lectures by eminent
personalities from various walks of life, and other extracurricular
activities.

Communication Skills Development Program

NIFFT has a well-equipped advanced communiction lab with interactive,
software integrated learning system which plays an exquisite role in providingCommunication Skills Development Program
the students an environment with pin point focus on the needs &
requirements of language & communication skill development. This lab is                                                       equipped with various modern and advanced accessories which make the    
learning easier and interesting. Selected e-books on literature,
CD/DVDs/audio cassettes of various rhymes, stories and lectures, DTH
system etc. help the students to get equipped with the practical knowledge of
the language; the regular extempore, debates and seminars play a crucial
role in developing a good orator out of the students.

Ph.D. and Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF)

The institute has provisions to award Doctoral Fellowship (PhD) and Post -Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) with a view to provide an opportunity to competent researchers to do research work in emerging areas related to Foundry, Forge, Metallurgy, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering and allied fields. The fellowship as per MHRD norms has been provided to the candidates who have qualified GATE/NET. The Institute also admits self-supporting candidates and persons who are in gainful employment or are in service in defence or other ministries of the Government of India or any other Government Organization, established Industrial research and development organization, autonomous bodies and Public undertakings, Universities/Colleges as may be recognized by the Instiute from time to time as 'Sponsored Scholars' to the research program subject to fulfilment of the minimum requisite qualifications. Besides this the qualified teachers from recognized Engineering Colleges can enhance their qualification by doing Ph.D. work as per the norms of Government of India are eligible for admission to the program. Post -Doctoral Fellowship is intended for person normally below 35 years of age. However persons from teaching Institutions recognized by AICTE/UGC or persons sponsored by DSIR recognized industrial organizations, the maximum age limit is 45 years. Fellowship is available to Indian as well as Foreign Nationals.

The course foundry & forge technology, which is one of its own kind, helps a student to gain knowledge and expertise in diverse areas such as sand technology, tooling and Methoding, casting parameter of ferrous & non-ferrous metals, modern casting process in the field of foundry. In forge technology the students are exposed to die design, forging parameter of ferrous & non-ferrous metals, some recent development in forging etc. Students have exhaustive knowledge of the subjects required for foundry & forge industries such as basic physical metallurgy and heat treatment of cast and forged components. They also have comprehensive know how of simulation software like DEFORM, ProCAST, Pro -E etc. for optimizing the production parameters.

Environmental Engineering


The Master of Technology Programme in Environmental Engineering is under the aegis of Department of Applied sciences and Humanities of this Institute. It offers a full time 2 years programme in M-Tech Environmental Engineering apart from PhD programs in Environmental Engineering disciplines. Well-equipped laboratories and
qualified faculty make it an ideal Department for carrying out academic activities.

As a part of the curriculum the students undergo two semesters Industrial training/research project in different National & private organizations Such as NEERI (National environmental engineering research institute), PDIL (Project Development of India Limited) and NML (National metallurgical laboratory).
